Name: Conero Riserva DOCG

Grapes: 100% Montepulciano

Growing area: the Marche, in the province of Ancona.

Location: in the villages of Montacuto and Varano, within the borders of the Parco Naturale, on the slopes of the Monte Conero promontory.
Age: from 10 to 30 years.
Soils: the soils derive from limestone-marl rocks interspersed with zones of dark red earth, clay and Plio-Pleistocene era stone.
Aspect and elevation: close to the Adriatic sea, but protected from the North winds by Monte Conero and by the high coastal bluffs, at 130-250 metres.
Training system: guyot and double guyot.
Vineyard density: from 2.500 to 4.500 vines per hectare.
Yield: 6 t of grapes/ha, utilising pruning to reduce the bud load per vine, in order to concentrate components and quality in fewer clusters per vine.

Vinification and maturation
Harvest: late-ripening varieties are picked by hand, selecting out the finest clusters, which are then immediately de-stemmed and gently pressed.
Vinification: the must undergoes fermentation in small, lined cement vats, with frequent pumpovers each day, then the wine macerates on the skins for numerous days.
Maturation: the wine is drawn off and matures for about 18 months in barriques and in small French oak barrels, then ages in the bottle for at least 1 year.

Tasting notes
Appearance: a rich, luminous ruby red tending to purple, the tonality notable for its depth.
Bouquet: it offers refined but emphatic aromas of sour cherry and dried violets, which seem never to end. Last to emerge are multi-layered, evolved impressions that duet with elegant scents of oak vanilla.
Palate: rounded, firmly structured and savoury. Fine-grained, impressive tannins act as an effective foil to the alcoholic warmth, creating an admirable balance. A superbly-elegant finish brings all of the components into harmony.
Extraordinary capacity for long-term ageing, enabling it to evolve over many years and to deliver astounding surprises.

Serving suggestions: iIt is at its best with the finest cuts of beef: steak and filets of the Marchigiana Gentile, Chianina, and Angus breeds will be sublime paired with Vigneti del Parco. White truffles from Acqualagna and Alba, and noble aged cheeses, such as Fossa di Talamello and Sogliano, complete the list of gastronomic delights to favour with this Riserva.
